Direct Messages¶
Direct Messages are private conversations between a small, fixed group of users. They are useful when you need to share updates, ask questions, or exchange files without using a public or team channel.

How Direct Messages Work¶
- A direct message conversation is created with one or more selected users.
- The members of the conversation are fixed after creation.
- Messages and shared files stay inside that private conversation.

When to Use Direct Messages¶
Use Direct Messages for focused communication that does not belong in a shared channel, such as:
- one-to-one follow-up on a task
- a short group discussion
- sharing a file privately with a small audience
Note: Direct message conversations are intentionally simpler than channels and usually offer fewer management options.
Typical Workflow¶
- Start a new direct message conversation.
- Select the participants.
- Type your message in the composer.
- Add files if needed, then send the message.
Result: The selected users can continue the conversation privately in the same message thread.
