Adding Files and Images¶
Use file fields to attach documents to a form and image fields to select or capture a picture. Some forms accept one file; others show a file count and accept several. Available commands depend on your permissions and the form design.
Choose or Paste a File¶
- Select Select File... to choose a file from your device.
- To use another source, open the arrow beside the button. Available sources can include Recently Used, a camera, Google Drive, and Office 365. A form can also offer Create from template options here.
- In a file window, choose My Computer to upload from your device. You can also drop files into its upload area.
- To paste, focus the file field or upload area and press Ctrl+V or Cmd+V. Paste from Clipboard reads an image from the clipboard when the browser supports it; the browser may request permission.
For a field that accepts one file, choosing another file replaces the selection. To attach several files, use a field that supports multiple files. Review its selected-file list, remove unwanted items, and select Add Selected Files. A form can limit the number or types of files you can add. Cloud sources may require selecting files one at a time.
Uploading or selecting a file does not complete the task. Save or submit the form using its normal action when you are ready.
Reuse a Recently Uploaded File¶
Open Recently Used in the source window or from the arrow beside the file button. This tab opens first when no new local files are being uploaded and no specific source was requested. Search by file name and select the file to reuse.
- The list contains up to 20 files you uploaded in the current Emakin domain. It is not a list of every file you can access or every cloud link you selected.
- Entries older than 30 days since their last upload or reuse are removed from the list. A deleted or unavailable file may also disappear.
- Reusing a file creates an independent copy. Changes to the new copy do not change the source file.
- Clear on a history entry removes it from this list without deleting the stored file.
An empty list displays an explanation. If loading fails, use Retry. Availability depends on your file permissions.
Select and Edit an Image¶
An image field opens Review Image before accepting a new picture. When uploading a local picture, camera capture, or clipboard image, the upload starts after you select Use Image. Cancel keeps the form's previous image.
For a local JPEG or static PNG image:
- Check the picture and its pixel dimensions.
- Use Rotate 90° to change its orientation.
- Adjust the left, top, right, and bottom crop boundaries. Values are percentages of the rotated image, and the preview updates as you change them.
- Use Reset Edits to restore the picture, or Use Image to accept it.
Stored files, templates, and external links have a confirmation preview without crop or rotation controls. GIF, WebP, SVG, and animated PNG files keep their original format and do not offer those editing controls. Preview availability also depends on the browser's ability to display the format.
The form designer chooses the compression setting. Its explanation appears in the review window. Explicit crop or rotation edits change the image even when automatic compression is disabled.
Pictures uploaded from your device, camera, or clipboard are checked for readability and limited to 50 MB and 40 million pixels. Your environment's file-type, size, or antivirus policies can impose additional restrictions.
Review or Remove an Attachment¶
Select the existing file name to open it using the available viewer or editor. In an image field, select the name to review the picture. A field containing several files opens a list where you can review, replace, or remove individual items. Commands are unavailable when the field or your permissions do not allow changes.
Removing a selection from a form is different from deleting a stored document. Removing a Recently Used entry only clears that history entry.
Handle Upload Problems¶
Each upload shows its own progress and any error message. Retry a temporary failure, or clear the failed item and choose another file. A file rejected because of its type or virus detection does not offer Retry. Other successfully uploaded files can still be added from the file window.
If a picture cannot be previewed, check that it is readable, within the image limits, and supported by your browser. For an existing form image, the file-opening link remains available beside the preview error.
To use a camera or clipboard, allow the relevant browser permission when prompted. Source availability can also depend on device capabilities and enabled integrations.
